Our Fraternity

Founded in 1855

Sigma Chi was founded on June 28, 1855 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, by seven men who broke from their existing fraternity over a matter of principle: that a chapter should be built from men of differing talents and temperaments, united by character rather than sameness.

That belief still governs the Fraternity, expressed through the three great aims of Friendship, Justice, and Learning, and through the seven values each founder stood for: Courage, Wisdom, Integrity, High Ambition, Self-Control, Courtesy, and Fidelity. Delta Iota was chartered at the University of Denver in 1947 and has carried them here ever since.
